Now The Guardian’s at it; advertising my really quite grim book on what United’s appointment of ‘The (not so) Special One’ says about Manchester United and the Premier League alongside a very negative piece on Mourinho by the writer Jonathan Wilson. You can take a look here.

Kicking a man when he’s down, eh?

Remember, you can buy the book from here. Help it on its inexorable rise towards Christmas number 1 (it’s already the 21st best-selling Premier League book, a full two years after its publication) at the same time as the team plummets…

Following on from The Daily Express last week digging out a quote from my book Jose Mourinho: The Art of Winning this week Tribal Football have again delved into my archives to pull out some stuff about Mourinho’s cardboard cutout (with a hidden tape recorder). You can read the piece here.

And you can buy the book here.

The Daily Express is this week using a quote from my book Jose Mourinho: The Art of Winning as (another) stick with which to beat (the delightful) Manchester United manager. Here’s a link to the piece – scroll down for the quote (and the pull-out).

And remember to buy your copy of the book while stocks last (or while Jose lasts) from here.

One from the archives for my Grandad, this, who loves rugby league (though isn’t particularly fond of either Bradford or St. Helens, being a Wigan fan)…

If you’re interested in my more recent sportswriting – perhaps for a Christmas present for one of your nearest or dearest – then here’s the links to my quartet of Manchester United books: Fergie’s Finest: Sir Alex Ferguson’s Greatest Manchester United x11The Pride of All Europe: Manchester United’s Greatest Seasons in the European Cup; Louis van Gaal: Dutch Courage; Jose Mourinho: The Art of Winning.

Here’s another one from the archives, covering yet another memorable sporting event from 2001…

But my sportswriting for Radio Five Live wasn’t just limited to football. I also enthusiastically covered other sports, including, in this case, the 2001 Grand National. I just so happened to have backed the winning horse (a massive outsider) in this case, which probably explains some of that enthusiasm…

If you read yesterday’s flash piece on a Leeds United Champions League tie in the early noughties, you might be hungry to read a more in-depth piece on the same game. So here goes. This is the piece which Radio Five Live accepted for their site:

I’m having a bit of a clear-out at home and I stumbled across some early examples of my sportswriting. Over the next few days I’ll be looking back at these stories (which were used on the Radio Five Live website, and covered a wide range of different sports).

I find it unbelievable now (given my Manchester United allegiances and the fact I’ve written FOUR books about the club) that this early effort was about their dread rivals from across the Pennines, Leeds United. I suppose I was trying to show Radio Five Live that my efforts could be unbiased…

Anyway, here goes:

Leeds Story

I also wrote a more detailed match-report which I’ll feature later in this series.

Here’s what the reviewers have said: “gives a good insight into Jose Mourinho and how he has become one of the most successful and talked about managers currently in the game.” Amazon Reviewer

“What a wonderful book! The most thoroughly researched, detailed, forensic and comprehensive analysis I have read about Jose Mourinho’s managerial career and how Kirby anticipates he will be welcomed and perform on the stage that awaits him at Old Trafford. Well argued with much use of original sources and fresh and engaging, this is essential reading for all students of management as well as Manchester United fans wondering that their club has let them in for.” Amazon Reviewer
